M201 canvas bucket
No jeep seems complete without a canvas water bucket though it has to be said that they are rarely seen in photographs of jeeps in action! The French army bucket is of a larger diameter than the US design and can be found on the stalls at UK shows if you look long and hard enough.
Photographic evidence of these buckets actually in use has been hard to come by but here at last is an example.
The photo shows the French Foreign Legion taking part in the famous Kolwesi Operation to release 3000 civilian hostages held by rebel forces in Zaire.
It is also worth noting the NATO / OTAN marking on the bumpers of each vehicle. The single diagonal line indicates a reconnaissance company. (see NATO / OTAN markings section)
